Sunville Church Cemetery

August 2007

Sunville Cemetery is located in Plum Township, Venango County Pennsylvania.  The Sunville Presbyterian Church was first organized in the home of Samuel Hays on June 12, 1839.  Mr. W.W. Davison deeded some land to the Sunville Presbyterian Church on March 16, 1849.  The new church was built by its members.

On page 85 of the Thursday, May 19, 1859 Minutes of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church held in Wilmington, Delaware is the listing for the Sunville Presbyterian Church in Venango County PA.  It shows it as a structure being 36' X 50' constructed at a total cost of $1,500; built on donated land.

Sometime later the structure was purchased by the Methodist Church.

Burials in the Sunville Cemetery are as early as 1844 with the death of  Sara Whitmore Grove, the wife of Captain Peter Grove, Lock Haven's famous Indian fighter and Captain in the Revolutionary War.
